D & G Catwalk Collection Spring/Summer 2010
This current collection for spring/summer 2010 I found inspiring for our concept. With the western theme throughout both mens and womenswear. We intend to use both male and female models for our shoot, but mainly focusing on menswear. In particular we want to focus on the leather, fringing alongside denim but add the travelor twist of here today gone tomorrow. Looking at other knwon travellors aswell as cowboys. (Laura Taylor)
Vogue Western Shoot 2010
When searching for inspiration for our shoot I came across this Western themed photoshoot in an April 2010 edition of Vogue. I felt the atmosphere was quite fitting for the theme of 'here today, gone tomorrow' that we want to portray in our work. I also thought the attitude towards the modern western style was appropraite as we want to give traditional western and travelling dress a unique, quirky and modern edge. -Emma
Mario Testino
This is another fashion image by Mario Testino, I like the way he has included text to conclude a story which relates well to our initial idea. The accesroies, styling and location all fit well and will help us to consider what we include to finish our shoot. I think the accesories are important and the idea of concluding with text could sum up our theme. (Laura Taylor)
Mens western editorials- designers
Men's Western Editorials
Researching a bit more into the western history a bit more I decided to focus on the fashion of cowboys. I cam across these photo shoots, from looking at them fringing is another fashion that we could focus on but also the denim jackets which is a good idea as denim jackets are highly fashionable at the minute.
Looking at the hairstyles in these photos, the hair slick back and the odd bit of hair hanging down could be an inspirational style that we could include into our own photo shoot.
Women's Western Editorials and more Pepe jeans London
We have decided to research both male and female fashion but we have decided to focus more on men's wear. Looking at Women's wear is a way for us to show how we would extend the project further but it's also good to show how our collection would be developed. Here are a couple of photos from these companies photo shoot's but looking at the men's and women's fashion there wouldn't be that much of a difference, we could still look at the denim and leather jackets and also the checkered shirts/dresses. From these photos we can get an idea of the types of styles we could possibly use for make up and hair. Going along with the research I think it would be easy to say that the messy hair is definitely a good option.
Street Chic, Market Research
Susanna Lau, freelance writer/blogger
"I'm wearing an Acne scarf, a vintage shirt, a Sacai skirt, Sou Brette necklace (she's an Indonesian designer), vintage Loewe trousers, Luella shoes, and the hat and bag are by a designer called Yokoo on Etsy." - Eclectic, layered style would be perfect to develop for our shoot, the denim and prints link well back to the gypsy, western themes we have been exploring.
Designers
Looking through some fashion designers and fashion advert I came across some pictures which explains the types of looks that we will be trying to achieve but in our own way.
This advert for Pepe jeans London really stood out. These photo shoots will be very inspirational towards our project. These photos are very beneficial towards our research as it is the perfect example to show just the kind of twist that we want to put across in our designs.

Accessories
Fringing moves away from last season's flapper feel and into Country & Western territory.
Thick leather fringes swished along the catwalks at Marc Jacobs, Emilio Pucci and Felder Felder.
At Mulberry, shoes and jackets were fringed with Crazy Heart fringes.
Wear with ruffles and silk frills for a play on texture - at Jasmine Di Milo, fringed bolero jackets accompanied evening dresses.
Patterned cowboy boots have become very popular recently in vintage shops - would give an old, worn feel if used in the shoot, as well as adding an element of pattern to the fairly plain garments used conventionally.

Poses
Here I have found some pictures of the types of poses to give our model's an idea of what we would like them to do. I found this piece of research very relevant to our project as not only does is give us an idea of what kind of poses we would like but I also found it gave us some relevance to the type of clothing that we should look at. This research has the theme of travellers and a biker theme which is similar which therefore means we can take inspiration from this and add it to our own theme. After showing some of the other girls these pictures we came to a combined opinion that we did like the sort of motion poses which makes them look like they are constantly on the go. Thinking about the photo shoot we can set up poses where we position the model ourselves until we are satisfied with the shot but we could take poses from this photo shoot where we could get a natural pose of the model walking around giving off the appearance that they are going to set off onto their next destination to give it that travellers theme.
Hairstyles
(Vogue hair trends S/S 2010)
With the women's hairstyles we decided that it would be nice to go along with the messy hair do's because obivously back in those days they didnt have hair product or hair straightners so we decided that our female models would have curly messy hair which is also a modern day hair style. We have also lookd at braids as they were often used for women or had long hair but it also incorporates in well with the theme.
Inspiration
When looking into western culture and the life of travellers, i came across key images which may influence us within our up and comming photoshoot. The images suggest key colours and textures, inspire locations and props for the shoot, and help us to enable to create a quirky twist to our concept.
Natural Location with worn away paint and delicate flowers, combined with layered textures and heavy leathers.
Smudged, smokey eye make up adds a mysterious focus onto the eyes.

Make up Try Outs
Here are a few images of the make up try out session that i had with my sister, Ellie. We experimented with two main looks which we had discussed within our group, these looks mainly focused on the eyes, and creating a subtle but on style look with a twist.
Our first look that Ellie tried was to create a natural matt foundation and then build detail onto the eye by using shimmering golds, yellows and oranges, and using a brown eyeliner to create definition. This look worked really well helping to hopefully add a much fresher feel to our up and comming shoot.
Our second look was to create a much heavier look onto the eye, which suited our concept theme of the gypsy being influenced by the cowboy/biker. Transforming from innocent and angelic to rebelious, Ellie create a dark black eye with hints of dark brown liner, the matt foundation was highlighter by bronzer to keep the fresh feel alive and the lips were kept to a subtle but sultry nude/pink.

Make tips
Here I have found some make up tips which you can always find at the back's of magazines. What drew my attention this magazine article was the different section especially paying great attention towards the skin and eyes as they are our two main factors for the photo shoot, because we would like the eyes to me our main factor we would need the skin to be very natural and this magazine had create tips for us to do that and the title flawless skin is what we would like our models to look like.
Looking at the eyes, we would like to create a very bold statement and Lauren who has research into more showed some example of the different shades of eye shadow that we could use. After researching through different photo shoots, magazines etc i think the overall theme that we would like to create into our own personal photo shoot is the smokey eyes.

Futuristic Space Western in which the costumes are influenced by Wild West style: natural materials such as wool, cotton, and leather in drab earth tones. Some clothing also reflects an east, south, and southeast Asian and Indian fusion of color and beauty as well as influences from the American Civil War, late 19th century as well as the 1930s depression era. Eclectic combination of styles/influences could be an effective way to modernise the western theme.

Based in Mexico, there is a distinct western influence in the dusty, natural scenery. However, the costumes are much simpler, with black and white being used in contrast for the main characters. The effect is strikingly glamorous - a different angle compared to other films.
